I do not like Political Correctness.   It is not honest, noble, or correct.

I believe it is one of the most insidious forms of censorship that has ever existed because it is cloaked in self righteousness as it seeks to control not only your words but your thoughts.  Free speech is no longer a consideration if you speak out about the wrong subjects.   The most frightening aspect of Political Correctness is that you will be punished even if what you say is true.  Truth is no defense to a violation of the politically correct rules.

It is also about power.  Think about it, what does it mean to be politically correct?   It means that you dare not criticize, offend, or insult anyone or anything that will incur the anger of  those groups that make and enforce the politically correct rules and have the power to punish you for your words.

Ironically, Political Correctness is a blatant display of intolerance from the self-ordained proponents of tolerance.   Even if well intentioned, what they fail to appreciate is that in a free society there should be an open and unfettered exchange of ideas and opinions.  The real test of our democracy is if we allow unpopular ideas and opinions to be expressed and judged on their merits or lack thereof in the marketplace of public opinion rather than be suppressed or censored by attacking the speaker in the name of Political Correctness.

You know as well as I do that if you say something that is deemed to be politically incorrect, you will be ostracized, vilified, and eventually persecuted for what you say.  The goal is to instill such fear in you that you will not even be able to think such incorrect thoughts let alone express them in words.

It is not much different than in the days when there were dictators or kings with unlimited power.  They controlled everything that was said or written about them and you dared not criticize them.  If you did, their ploy was to brand you as a traitor before you were publicly punished.   Today, it is not dictators or kings, but, the political correctness watch dogs within our society that wield the same power to control your words.  The ploy now is to accuse you of hate speech before your public flogging.

Sometimes you are labeled as being insensitive which is just a buzz word that means you dared to be brash enough to say something that you should have realized would anger those in power.  Again, you must be punished much like a child who talks back to his parents.

I am not suggesting that we should all engage in mindless name calling or promote violence, but, I do believe that we all should have the right to have an open discourse and be able to express our opinions on any topic even if unpopular.  Whatever happened to the attitude that I may not like what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it?
